It’s finally here! College football is at last upon us. R.I.P to the BCS system and the BCS title game. Now we won’t have any more debates decided by a computer and points, instead of on the field. Maybe we can put to rest the debates about strength of conference or schedule outside of conference s/o to the SEC. We won’t have any sports talk radio shows debating if Boise st can meet Bama in a championship game because they will have an opportunity to. These all seem like wins to me but the system still may be a little flawed.
Instead of treating the entire season like a playoff teams can now afford to lose a game or two devaluing the schedule just a little. Also teams must now pass the eyeball test to impress the appointed committee enough to be placed in one of the “New Years Six Playoff Bowls.” Instead of the National championship game, the top four teams selected by the 13 person committee will have a traditional playoff. One great thing is that teams can no longer be passed on by bowl reps because they don’t travel as well as a lower ranked team or their fan base doesn’t travel with them. It’s not perfect but it is better and it’s nice to see all parties involved are working to improve the product. Kudos.
