RECAP: NKU vs #16 West Virginia

Sunday night the Northern Kentucky Norse faced off against #16th ranked West Virginia Mountaineers at The Bank of Kentucky Center. NKU came into the game 3-4 and WVU sported a record of 7-1.

The first half was a very gritty half for both teams. If you came to the The Bank of Kentucky Center for some offensive fireworks during the first twenty minutes then you came to the wrong place. WVU shot 30.4% from the field on 27 shots, while NKU didn’t fair any better shooting 24% on 25 shots.  WVU held the lead 20-17 over NKU at the half.

NKU’s Chad Jackson finished the first half with 8 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists.

WVU’s Juwan Staten finished the first half with 8 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals.

The second half was a complete 180 for West Virginia. West Virginia and their full court press was able to force 9 turnovers and get a lot of easy baskets they didn’t get in the first half. WVU controlled the second half by outscoring NKU 47-25. WVU shot 44.4% from the field in the second half on 36 shots, while NKU shot 29.2% on 24 shots.

In the second half the undersized Norse couldn’t keep up with the in your face style the Mountaineers played for 40 minutes.

Juwan Staten finished with 12 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.

Chad Jackson finished with 12 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.

West Virginia won 67-42. WVU moves to 8-1 and NKU moves to 3-5.

Notes: Chad Jackson, Anthony Monaco and Coach Bezold believe this game will help them during conference play.
