The West Virginia Mountaineers talked their way into a royal spanking last night against the Kentucky Wildcats. It safe to say that the Wildcats didn’t play their best ball during their first two tournament games against Hampton and Cincinnati, but they turned it up a notch against Bob Huggins’ Mountaineers. The Wildcats came out with a mission to demolish West Virginia, and it was fueled by the comments coming from freshman guard Daxter Miles Jr. Miles, wrote a check that he couldn’t cash as he foolishly predicted a Mountaineers victory stating that UK would be 36-1 after they faced his team.
Miles Jr. is a decent player in his own right, but to call out UK was careless. Freshmen normally make mistakes, and that is something he did, leaving his teammates on an island to deal with the beast of defeating UK. UK defeated the Mountaineers 78-39, and they probably could have won by 100 if they didn’t call the dogs off. Prior to this game it appeared that UK would sleep-walk its way to a title run, but the words from Miles Jr. woke up a sleeping giant.
The rest of the remaining teams that will be in the Elite Eight can thank Miles Jr. and West Virginia for firing up the Wildcats giving them more motivation to take the title. I am sure that other teams will keep quiet prior to facing them, and learn from the mistake that Miles Jr. made. The sleeping giant is now awaken, and it’s not looking good for the remainder of the teams in the tournament dealing with a motivated and disrespected UK team.
