The Houston Cougars have been known to jump start head coaching careers. Just remember Kevin Sumlin before he was manning college station, he was the head guy in Houston.
Before Sumlin, Baylor head coach Art Briles was the head man at Houston and both left their imprint on the Cougars program, but have now went on to greener pastures.
Following four years of Tony Levine, the Cougars have hired Tom Herman. Prior to UH, Herman was most recently the offensive coordinator of the National Champion Ohio State Buckeyes. He was the mastermind behind one of the most potent offenses that college football had seen in years.
Herman falls in line with Sumlin and Briles to hopefully be able to make the Cougars a threat on the national front.
While being an OC, you don’t have as much responsibilities as the head man, but being on the staff of the current national champs can’t hurt. Herman should be able to use his ties to OSU to land some solid recruits and give the Cougars a potent offense. If Herman can put his imprint on the program as fast as the men before him, how long does he stay in Houston – four years max? We will wait and see, but as of now the AAC needs to keep their eyes on Houston.
