“This is a big move for NKU athletics, the more exposure they get they better their programs will become in the future. ESPN3 is a channel you can stream and in the current wave we live in a lot of people are streaming so this is a win.” My thoughts on this NKU move.
Northern Kentucky will broadcast 21 contests this fall on the Horizon League Network on ESPN3. Seven events each from volleyball, men’s soccer and women’s soccer will all be broadcast live on ESPN3.
“ESPN has been the premier outlet for sports coverage now for decades,” said women’s soccer head coach Bob Sheehan. “With nearly our entire schedule set to be broadcast on ESPN3, we will be able to provide our student-athletes with national exposure throughout the whole season. This will also continue to elevate Norse athletics on a national landscape.”
Due to the Horizon League’s agreement with ESPN, The Worldwide Leader in Sports hosts the league’s digital network on its ESPN3 platform. With the digital network’s availability in nearly 82 percent of the approximately 116.3 million homes (according to Nielson’s 2014 estimate), Norse Nation will be on display all across the country.
The first fall broadcasts will be carried on August 16, when the men’s and women’s soccer teams host an exhibition doubleheader in conjunction with the Victorfest Tailgate Party. Women’s soccer hosts in-state foe Western Kentucky at 4 p.m. The 7 p.m. nightcap features men’s soccer versus a Kentucky Wildcats team that is receiving preseason votes in the college soccer polls.
Volleyball can first be seen on ESPN3 when Valparaiso comes to Regents Hall for a 7 p.m. showdown on Sept. 25.
