Ole Miss Quarterback Chad Kelly’s College Career is Over

Ole Miss quarterback Chad Kelly is briefly hanging up his cleats after suffering a torn ACL and torn lateral meniscus in his knee during the Rebels victory Georgia Southern on Saturday.

While at Ole Miss, Kelly became one of the best quarterbacks in the conference. In 2015, he was second team All-SEC as he finished the season with tying 14 Ole Miss single-season records, with 4,542 total yards, 4,042 passing yards, 31 passing touchdowns, 41 total touchdowns and eight 300-yard passing games. Due to last year’s performance, Kelly was slated to become one of the top prospects in the upcoming NFL Draft.

In lieu of his latest injury, Kelly will look to continue the family tradition in playing in the NFL. Former Buffalo Bills quarterback and Hall of Famer Jim Kelly is the uncle to former Ole Miss QB.

The outlook for Kelly in 2016 was promising before injury struck. He was named preseason, first-team All-SEC, and he was expected to build on his wildly successful season from the year before. At age 22, a lot of football is left for Kelly, and when healthy, his chances of making an NFL roster could be in the cards.

It’s sad to see his college career end at Ole Miss after it was filled with so much promise after transferring from Clemson. Ole Miss is already having a down year after starting off the year No.11 in the country, and now with their quarterbacks injured, head coach Hugh Freeze and the Ole Miss Rebels are in need of a reboot.
