I’m sorry for the delay on this post, but I wanted to share that NKU’s senior forward Drew McDonald earned Horizon League Player of the Week on Monday.
Congrats to Drew!
Per NKUNorse
The Horizon League office has named Northern Kentucky’s Drew McDonald as its Nike® Co-Player of the Week after he led the Norse to a perfect 3-0 weekend en route to winning the KEMI Northern Kentucky Basketball Classic.
The native of Cold Spring, Kentucky, averaged a double-double of 21.3 points and 11.3 rebounds across the three games. He converted 18-of-34 (52.9 percent) field goal attempts and went 24-of-29 (82.8 percent) at the charity stripe. He was named tournament MVP and highlighted the all-tournament team.
McDonald bookended the weekend with his 36th and 37th double-doubles of his career. He led NKU with 14 points and 14 rebounds in Friday night’s victory over UNC Asheville and closed the weekend with 31 points and 12 caroms versus Coastal Carolina. In between, he registered a 19-point, 8-rebound outing against Manhattan.
The senior forward continued his climb in Northern Kentucky’s record books over the weekend, moving from 11th all-time to eighth on the career scoring charts with 1,547 points. He also jumped into second in career rebounds at NKU and now has 823 rebounds to his credit.
McDonald shares the award with Green Bay’s JayQuan McCloud.
Northern Kentucky sits at a perfect 6-0, its best start in the DI era. The Norse closed their DII tenure in 2011-12 with a 13-0 mark to begin the season.
NKU will face UCF in Orlando on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 6 p.m.
