Late November a video of then Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt surfaced of him pushing a young lady down and kicking her. The situation happened in February, but soon as the video turned up the Chiefs released their star running back.
Assault Video:
After being released he talked to ESPN’s Lisa Salters on NFL Countdown:
After the interview Hunt feel off the grid for a second, but reports stated he was taking the right steps to get a chance. I hope the young man learned from his lesson, but I wasn’t shocked he was signed for two reasons:
1. ESPN made a list of the Top 25 players under 25 years of age and Hunt was in the Top 5
2. He has done nothing, but prove he is a top tier running back in his two years of service
In 27 games he has 2,151 yards rushing and 15 touchdowns as well as 79 catches for 833 yards and 10 touchdowns.
I will say that I’m shocked that the Cleveland Browns signed him because of how good rookie Nick Chubb performed last season. Chubb proved he has franchise back skills playing in all 16 games, but didn’t get to become the workhorse until the team’s seventh game as they traded Carlos Hyde to the Jacksonville Jaguars. He rushed for 996 yards and scored eight touchdowns. He also caught 29 passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns.
So, now the Browns have two great running backs that are 23 years of age. We know Hunt will probably be suspended to start the season, but if he doesn’t get in trouble and starts to play how does this stunt the growth of Chubb? Can they use them similar to how the New Orleans Saints use Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram? Right now we have a lot of questions and not enough answers.
