Neil’s takeaways from the Bearcats 87-69 victory over EKU

Today the Bearcats improved to 3-0 on the season after defeating Eastern Kentucky University 87-69 where they were led by David DeJulius who finished with a game high 22 points. Jeremiah Davenport had his best game of the season as he also finished with a season high 19 points and really showed what he can do offensively. The Bearcats held on after a late push by EKU, but this Bearcats team was clicking today as they saw five players score in double figures in the teams victory.

John Newman injury update- The Bearcats would be without guard John Newman for the second straight game due to a knee injury. Newman a key part of this Bearcats team, as he is arguably the best defender on this Bearcats roster, and with missing time the Bearcats depth would get tested early. We asked coach Miller about the status of Newman and the severity of the injury after the teams 87-69 victory.

“He’s going a deal with his knee. I think he’s going to be out for some time,” said head coach Wes Miller. “I do believe he will be back at some point this year.” A huge blow for the Bearcats team as Newman, came back for his extra year of eligibility and was looking to play a key role for the Bearcats this season.

Spreading the ball around- The Bearcats did a fantastic job at spreading the ball around as they saw five players score in double digits today as the offense got going early after big days from David DeJulius and Jeremaiah Davenport. I will say I was very impressed with the play of Davenport today, as he continued to get to his spot and knock down shots and seemed to be a huge matchup problem as we all know once Davenport gets hot, he has the ability to light it up and he did just that today.
