4 takeaways from the Bearcats first Satterfield led Spring Game

Satterday’s in Nippert Stadium are now in full effect as Scott Satterfield and the Bearcats wrap up spring camp this afternoon following their annual Spring game. It wasn’t a traditional Spring game like recent years, but just a more practice look with the most live contact we have seen all Spring. “It was a lot of fun out there this afternoon,” said head Coach Scott Satterfield. “I want to thank our fans, band, cheerleaders for coming out, it was an awesome atmosphere for our guys. I thought there was outstanding play on both sides of the ball.”

A revamped offensive line

One of the main focuses for Scott Satterfeild and staff this offseason was addressing the offensive line. An offensive line that saw James Tunstall, Jake Renfro, Lorenz Metz, Jeremy Cooper and Joe Huber all either transfer or head to the NFL. The main question was who would step in and replace those guys? The Bearcats made it a priority to land as many offensive linemen as they could in the early transfer portal window, after landing commitments from Luke Kandra, who spent the last two seasons at Louisville, Trevor Radosevich, who spent the last four seasons at Penn and then Phillip Wilder, who spent the last three seasons at Southeast Missouri State. All three of those guys, have been in high leverage situations throughout their career and have filled in nicely for the Bearcats this Spring. The also return Dartanyan Tinsley, Gavin Gerhardt, Cam Jones and John Williams from a season ago, who all contributed at one point or another in the 2022 season.

The offensive line for today’s Spring game looked as followed. LT John Williams, LG Trevor Radosevich, C Gavin Gerhardt, RG Dartanyan Tinsely, and RT Phillip Wilder. Also, should note that Scott Satterfield said Luke Kandra has been out with an injury that has kept him out for the most of Spring camp. I thought the offensive line held their own, especially vs a front seven that will cause a lot of problems for many teams come the season. I was really impressed with how they have handled the pressure of returning veterans in Dontay Corleone, Jowon Briggs, Malik Vann, but the offensive line has really started to create a lot of big holes for the running backs here this Spring.
