4 takeaways from the Bearcats first Satterfield led Spring Game

BlackCats are back and here to stay on defense

The BlackCats defense has been a tradition in recent years for the Bearcats and a key reason for their success. Despite losing Ivan Pace, Arquon Bush, Ja’Quon Sheppard, Ty Van Fossen, Wil Huber and more from last season, the Bearcats defense has continued to thrive this Spring. The Bearcats front seven of Dontay Corleone, Malik Vann, Jowon Briggs, Dorian James, Jack Dingle, Daniel Grzsesiak and Deshawn Pace will cause a lot of problems for teams this season, something that we have seen all Spring as well.

Jordan Young, a redshirt sophomore has been a huge standout on defense throughout Spring ball. The former Florida Gator has been everywhere, coming away with some big-time turnovers throughout camp, then had another strong showing this afternoon in the spring game. Look for Young to be the next great cornerback from the University of Cincinnati as he looks to take over a secondary that lost both cornerbacks to the portal and the NFL this offseason. Daniel Grzesiak is another name to keep an eye on along with Deshawn Pace at the outside nickel position as both have had a tremendous spring camp. Grzesiak has flashed all Spring especially after coming off a season where he finished with 8.5 sacks for Utah State this past season and should be a fun very exciting and unique player to watch in Bryan Brown’s defense, a defense that loves to get to the quarterback. Deshawn Pace has really excelled at that “star” position as the 6’2″ senior has put his athletic abilities on display this spring and has really excelled in that role after playing linebacker the last few seasons. This defense has been very fun to watch this Spring as they have recorded a lot of takeaways which is something Bryan Brown’s defense has been very good at in recent years.
