Let’s help Evan Perricelli

Yesterday I was contacted to shed some light on a great cause. I am truly humbled to help and I hope you will take a minute to read the information outlined below. Evan’s story hits a soft spot with me because I have a son around the same age.

“Last spring, the 1st grader was diagnosed with idiopathic aplastic anemia, a rare form of blood cancer that is often fatal. The Perricelli family discovered that Evan was ill shortly after his kindergarden graduation. The young soccer player was becoming increasing exhausted and easily bruised.

Since his diagnosis this past May, Evan has recieved a bone marrow transplant that has saved his life. Although incredibly grateful, the entire experience of waiting for a donor, identifying the match and receiving the marrow was excruciating. Evan has used this experience as motivation to help others. On Saturday February 1st from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., Evan is helping orchestrate a blood drive and bone marrow registry that will be held at Kona Korporate (5945 centennial circle). Kona Ice, a mobile shaved ice franchise, has partnered with Evan to help him plan and organize the blood drive which will feature several instrumental members of the community including Chris Herrell of the Cincinnati Reds (a blood marrow recipient that suffers from the same rare condition as Evan). “
