Cincinnati started their American Athletic Conference play with an impressive win over UConn. On Saturday they traveled down to New Orleans, LA to face AAC foe Tulane Green Wave. Would Cincinnati be able to get their second win in conference?
In the first half it was the Keith Williams and Chris Vogt show as the two juniors led the way with 16 and 11 points respectively. The two had their inside outside thing going and it led to an 39-32 lead at the half. The one saving grace for Tulane was their three point shooting as they hit 6-of-10 from behind the arc. Cincinnati outrebounded Tulane 21-12 in the first 20 minutes of play.
In the second half turnovers and fouls saddled Cincinnati. Williams and Mika Adams-Woods fouled out. Williams finished with 18 points after scoring 16 in the first half. Vogt kept chugging along tying a career high 21 points on 9-of-11 from the field, but he did have a big miss with 1:07 left in the game that would’ve tied it. Cincinnati was outrebounded, lost the free throw battle 21 to 6 and committed 10 turnovers in the second half. Teshaun Hightower pulled a reverse Williams scoring 17 of his 22 points in the second half.
Jarron Cumberland finished with 10 points, six rebounds and six assists. Tre Scott had a career high assists.
As good as Cincinnati looked in the first half, they didn’t play as clean in the second and took home a 76-71 loss to Tulane. Cincinnati is now 8-6 overall and 1-1 in the AAC. They are off until Wednesday when they will meet Tulsa at Fifth Third Arena at 7 p.m.
