The news of the week was Zach Harvey opting out of the season, followed by the bad weather in the state of Texas, but particularly Houston. Would Cincinnati play Houston? Late in the week we found out the game was on against the No. 6 ranked team in the nation. Would Cincinnati be able to push their winning streak to five?
It started well as Cincinnati with a 13-8 run with two threes from Jeremiah Davenport and even Mike Saunders, Jr. hitting a three during that stretch. They had a lead of 19-18 after a Mamoudou Diarra tip in, but after that it got UGLY and I mean UGLY, Houston went on a 32-7 run to have a 50-26 lead at the half. Houston forced turnovers, pushed the pace, controlled the paint and got a lot of good shots.
The second half was more of the first half, so it is a burn the tape game, at times Houston had Cincinnati doubled up. They went on to lose 90-52, which breaks their winning streak and now puts them under .500 overall at 7-8 and 5-5 in the AAC.
This team will play four games in eight days so it will be very interesting to see how they bounce back. They will play Tulsa on the road Wednesday at 9 pm.
