Today the Bearcats junior guard David DeJulius announced he has opted back in for the rest of the season. DeJulius opted out back on February 25th due to mental health issues. The Bearcats then were in the midst of playing four games in 8 days that included three of four on the road. The Michigan transfer is averaging 10.0 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.6 assists while shooting 36% from the field. The Bearcats have missed his playmaking ability as he has been known to get to the hole and attack defenses. This is huge for the Bearcats as they head into the tournament to take on SMU in their first game of the AAC Tournament. SMU is coming off a month layoff due to Covid-19. This is huge for the Bearcats as freshman point guard Mike Saunders, Jr. is nursing a sprained ankle that kept him out of Sunday’s contest versus ECU. Coach Brannen told the media today that “Saunders has practiced all week and is on track to play Friday.” The Bearcats getting a veteran like DeJulius back in time for a late conference tournament run is a great sign for the Bearcats as they look to make a late postseason run. The Bearcats have been playing very well as of late especially the younger core so getting a veteran leader like DeJulius back in the lineup is huge for the Bearcats. I know us here at The Front Office News have talked to David DeJulius before and we are very glad to say he’s healthy and getting back to action!
