Another guy that I have noticed that has had a good camp early on so far after the first week is sophomore cornerback Sammy Anderson. Anderson is a high motor cornerback, who has shown why he was a Top 300 rated recruit in the class of 2020. Anderson decided to redshirt after the 2020 season, and he has shown great strides early in camp as he has made some great plays, the thing that really stood out to me about Anderson was his ability to track the ball when its in the air, he made a great play early in camp for an interception. Anderson was drawing major interest coming out of Trotwood Madison High School where he held offers from Louisville, Iowa State, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Penn State, Purdue and even was drawing interest from Ohio State before he decided to stay home and play for the Bearcats.
Another Key player to keep an eye on is junior safety Jacob Dingle, Dingle saw action in nine games for the Bearcats in 2020 where he finished with five tackles, four of those versus ECU. Dingle had an interesting route to UC as he is the 3rd member of his family to play for the Bearcats behind his father and brother. Dingle has had a nice start to camp as well and has shown why he was rated one of the top players in Kentucky coming out of high school in 2019. Don’t be shocked if you see the junior get some action to spell Bryan Cook or Ja’von Hicks this season.
Redshirt freshman cornerback Todd Bumphis is also making a name for himself at Camp. Bumphis has shown some people that he is capable of stepping in and making plays as he made a few good plays as well as camp and is starting to make a name of himself. He was taking some time to ask questions to safety Ja’von Hicks and cornerback Coby Bryant after a few plays and you could really see the veterans getting some confidence building within the younger guys as they have the mentality to get better every day, play by play. Bumphis has flashed a lot of positives in camp and has really impressed me within the first week of camp.
