The Bearcats are now sitting at 6-0 on the season, ranked second in the country, the highest ranking in school history for the Bearcats. What is next for the Bearcats you ask? The Bearcats travel to Annapolis, MD this Saturday when they take on Navy at 12 pm. Navy on the other hand is a different team than we are used to seeing in college football as they utilize the triple option style offense.
The triple option style offense is something the Bearcats are very familiar with though, as Mike Tressel and the defense has a lot of familiarity with that play style as some of them played in that offensive style when they were in high school, a few of the players from Colerain High School know that system very well, Beavers, Pace, Corleone, Hicks, so this benefits the Bearcats very much as three key players on defense two being linebackers, know this play style very well.
Navy is coming into this game 1-5 overall (1-3 AAC), but their record may show they are struggling, you look back at the last few games, they beat UCF 34-30, lost to No. 21 ranked SMU 31-24, a one score game versus a top team in the country, shows the Bearcats have a fight ahead of them. Navy is also a team that is willing to extend drives and kill the clock, so the Bearcats will have to find a way to get stops and keep that defense off the field.
Key players for Navy to keep an eye on.
Tai Lavatai– Lavatai has only thrown 21 passes on the season, but for an offense that utilizes that triple option style play I mentioned earlier, he has completed 10 passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns. He looks to be the starting quarterback heading into Saturdays matchup versus the No. 2 ranked Bearcats. Lavatai may not throw the ball much, but he will make you work as he is very capable of taking off and using his legs to extend plays.
