Bearcats’ Ethan Wright makes position switch ahead of the 2022 season

Today, Cincinnati Bearcats head coach Luke Fickell confirmed that running back Ethan Wright has made the switch from running back to safety. TFON’s Neil Meyer reported that the Bearcats have him listed as a running back/defensive back on their roster, but after spending his first two seasons toting the rock, he will be on the back end sniffing out runs and breaking up pass plays.

At the finish of last season, Wright was thought to be in play for more snaps at the running back position with the departure of Jerome Ford, but with the transfer in of Corey Kiner in the spring most knew snaps could get a little tighter.

The junior from Akron, Ohio had 29 rushes for 153 yards and three touchdowns with a 5.3 yards per carry average last season.

Coach Fickell stated, “Wright reminded him of Bryan Cook.” Who was a second round pick in spring’s NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. That is high praise for the 6-foot-1, 200 pound safety. If he can morph into a Cook clone he will be on the field sooner than later. His skill set on offense translates on defense it will be fun to see how this pans out.
