Aveon Smith, quarterback
Quarterback Brett Gabbert suffered an injury in the season opener at Kentucky, so taking over for him is freshman quarterback Aveon Smith. Smith fired three touchdown passes and an interception on 22 attempts, totaling 155 passing yards and 38 rushing yards in his first career start last week. The Bearcats will have to contain the freshman and if they can rattle him into some rookie mistakes. This could be a good game for the Bearcats defense.
Mac Hippenhammer, wide receiver
Hippenhammer, the most explosive player on Miami’s offense is coming off a game where him and freshman quarterback Aveon Smith combined for two touchdowns and 52 yards on offense. The Bearcats secondary will have to keep Hippenhammer in check if they want to wreck havoc for Smith on Saturday.
