Now let’s take a look at the Owls defense where they are currently ranked second in the AAC in passing yards allowed, and 15th in all of FBS. The defense is led by sophomore safety Alex Odom who has a team high 65 tackles on the season along with two interceptions.
The Owls also rank first in the AAC in tackles for loss, which is also good for 7th in all of the FBS, while the also ranked first in sacks and first down defense. It all starts with junior outside linebacker Layton Jordan who has 45 tackles on the season. Jordan also leads the AAC in forced fumbles and has a great ability to make a play on the ball. Jordan also just set a new Temple school record as he has recorded three defensive touchdowns on the season which is an interesting stat to hit on now that we mention it, as there are only five teams in all of college football with more defensive touchdowns that Jordan, and the Bearcats happen to be one of those teams.
Now for the Owls defensive line a name to keep an eye on is sophomore is Darian Varner who has 35 tackles and 7.5 sacks on the season. The Norfolk, Virginia native will be a huge test for the Bearcats offensive line as he has great feel of the backfield and is known to get to the quarterback so the experienced Bearcats offensive line will have to know where Varner at all times our else it could be a long day for Ben Bryant.
The Bearcats (8-2, 5-1 AAC) will kick off vs Temple (3-7, 1-5 AAC) this Saturday at 4 pm.
