Takeaways from the Bearcats contest vs No. 2 Houston

Second Half Takeaways

Houston came out on a 13-2 run as they took a huge 48-30 lead, as Kelvin Sampson and the Cougars would force the Bearcats to play from behind and find ways to get going down the final stretch. The Bearcats were held to just four points in the first 10 minutes of the second half as Houston was starting to run away with this one it seemed.

The story of the game was the play of Jarace Walker as he showed he was the best player on the court today as the 6’8″ freshman dominated on all aspects of this one.

Mika Adams-Woods

The senior guard had arguably his best game of the season as he has played tremendous as of late. The senior guard finished with a team high 19 points on 8-11 shooting and played a huge role for the Bearcats tonight. Adams-Woods flashed on all three levels tonight and was doing great job getting downhill and finding the open man on the dribble penetration pitch as he found Landers Nolley quite a bit there in the first half.

Overall, the biggest takeaway from this game was the turnovers. The Bearcats turned the ball over 17 times while Houston turned it over just seven. The Cougars did a fantastic job at turning those turnovers to points as they dominated the Bearcats 26-4 in that category. Houston arguably the top team in the country, is great defensive team highlighted by three dominant guards in Marcus Sasser, Jamal Shead, and Tramon Mark. Those three made it difficult for the Bearcats to get anything going alongside Jarace Walker. The Bearcats limit the turnovers tonight this could be a different ball game, and it all started with the five turnovers in the first five minutes of this one. That is when Houston really set the tone after a 5-0 Bearcats run to start, the Cougars went on a 14-2 run and never looked back from there.

The Bearcats (11-6, 2-2 AAC) will be back in action this Wednesday at 9 pm when they welcome in Eastern Carolina (10-7, (1-3 AAC) to Fifth third Arena where the Bearcats will look to get back in the win column after now losing their second straight.
