What to know ahead of the Bearcats Spring Game

Who will replace Tre Tucker and Tyler Scott?

The main question this offseason has been the wide receiver room, as there is only one current receiver from a season ago on the roster that saw significant action and that is Chris Scott. Former wide receiver Jadon Thompson transferred to Louisville, while Tre Tucker and Tyler Scott are off to the NFL. Wide receiver was a key position this offseason within the transfer portal as they added Donovan Ollie, Sterling Berkhalter, Dee Wiggins, all three who have seen significant playing time throughout their careers. The Bearcats also added former Florida State receiver Keyshawn Helton, but he has not practiced all Spring after Scott Satterfield announced before Spring ball that Helton was still recovering from injury.

Helton, has still embraced that leadership role this spring and is always the first guy there on the sidelines as he has still tried to bring the energy each and every day this spring and help out when he can. However, Ollie and Wiggins are both big body receivers who can really go up in get the ball and have been impressive this Spring. Ollie, and Wiggins both seniors, will look to play a huge part in the offense this year for the Bearcats. However, there’s been a few players who have impressed me this spring at the slot position and two of those are redshirt freshman Lesley Andoh and true freshman Barry Jackson. Andoh, a walk-on has really stood out within the slot and has really embraced every opportunity this spring. Jackson, a true freshman has really come in and embraced the opportunities this spring within the wide receiver room. “I thought Barry Jackson had a very nice day today and has seen a lot of reps in the slot for someone who just got here in January. Lesley has been very consistent within the slot, him and Barry they are two guys getting most the reps and have done well,” said Satterfield. The Bearcats also will look to add to the wide receiver room once the portal opens back up as Satterfield also noted that they want to add some more depth following Spring ball.
