Per GoBearcats:
Cincinnati wide receiver/return specialist Braden Smith and running back Corey Kiner have earned recognition this week from the Paul Hornung and Doak Walker Awards, respectively, for their performances in Saturday’s win at Pitt.
The Hornung is given annually to the most versatile player in major college football, while the Walker goes to the nation’s top running back.
Smith had five catches for 59 yards against Pitt, including a miraculous, diving touchdown from Emory Jones for a 27-7 lead. He also connected with Dee Wiggins for 30 yards on his first pass attempt of the season. The former high school quarterback is now 6-for-11 in his career for 190 yards and two touchdowns.
Smith’s nine catches (for 131 yards) and two touchdowns both lead the Bearcats. He also serves as the primary punt returner.
Kiner’s 153 yards on 20 carries marked his second-straight 100-yard game to begin the season (third overall). The Cincinnati native ranks sixth nationally with 129.0 yards per game, which includes 7.8 per carry. He had a career-long 68-yard run against the Panthers as well.
