Keys to the game
Limit the Turnovers- The Bearcats will have to limit the turnovers on offense and create turnovers on the defensive end. Emory Jones threw a costly interception vs BYU on the opening drive that he wishes he could have back that resulted in a BYU touchdown. However, for the Bearcats, Scott Satterfield said this week he spent a lot of time watching the Texas vs Oklahoma game and was proud of how the Bearcats responded to holding the Sooners to just 20 points. “It just says we can compete and play at this Big 12 level and compete with these teams,” Satterfield said. “That was a great football game on Saturday, it comes back to turnovers. We are not that far off, we have to continue to do the things we are doing, continue to fine tune on all three phases of the game and just find a way to make one or two more plays each game. I mean you look at the five teams that won in the Big 12 this weekend, they won the turnover battle 13-2, that’s the importance of things.”
A big emphasis on Saturday will be the Bearcats defensive line, can they disrupt the Iowa State offensive line and get to Becht in the backfield. Iowa State has really struggled to run the ball this season as we mentioned, but this is an opportunity for the Bearcats to show why their defensive line is one of the best in the country. Look for guys like Dontay Corleone, Jowon Briggs, Malik Vann and Daniel Grzesiak to have a strong outing on Saturday.
