Wednesday was quite a day for the Bearcats as national signing day has officially come and gone after the Bearcats officially announced the signings of 21 high school players and eight members of the 2024 class that come via transfer portal.
On Wednesday afternoon, Scott Satterfield sat with the media to talk about the 2024 recruiting class and what some of those players bring to the table. The Bearcats 2024 recruiting class is currently ranked 51st in the country per 247 highlighted by four-star quarterback Samaj Jones, and four-star defensive back Daniel James.
Satterfield mentioned that 10 of the 21 incoming freshmen will be early enrollees and on campus here in January and will begin working out with the team here in a couple of weeks. Those ten members include DB Jiquan Sanks, CB Zaravion Johnson, CB Willie Goodwyn, TE Devyn Zahursky, WR Dakari Anderson, WR Kale Woodburn, LB Simeon Coleman, QB Samaj Jones, OL Jake Wheelock, TE Gavin Grover.
Just over a year ago today, Scott Satterfield and his staff were looking to rebuild a roster after twenty plus Bearcats announced their decision to transfer following the news of Luke Fickell leaving for Wisconsin or were focused on the next stop of their playing careers and that was taking their talents to the NFL. So, unlike last year, Satterfield was able to bring in his first true recruiting class here as head coach of the Cincinnati Bearcats as they look to rebound from a 3-9 season.
Satterfield touched on some of the incoming freshman earlier this afternoon in his press conference and Bearcats fans will have a lot to be excited about heading into the 2024 season. A phrase we heard come up quite frequently today was that the Bearcats were not only looking to add great players, but great people as well on and off the field. Which is what you want in a locker room as you can develop them on the field as players, but also off the field as people as well.
Here is what Satterfield had to say about some of the incoming talent after signing their national letter of intent earlier this afternoon.
QB Samaj Jones: “Samaj is a guy we recruited heavily while we were at Louisville and were able to continue that relationship once we got to Cincinnati, he was able to visit several times, came to 2-3 games in the fall. Early on we saw him in camp about two years ago and loved the way he threw the ball, but also that he could really run. At that time, I think he was a 4.6 guy as he was around 195 pounds at that point. He has great size, he could run, throw, but really what sold us for Samaj was the ball just jumped off his hand. He is that kind of dual threat guy that we like, he is a solid build guy, not extremely tall, but he is put together. We love the versatility and playmaking ability, he is very knowledgeable in football, we are very excited for him.”
