University of Cincinnati women’s basketball head coach Katrina Merriweather has announced the addition of Texas A&M transfer Tineya Hylton to the 2024-25 roster.
Hylton, a 5-foot-7 guard, comes to Cincinnati following two seasons with the Aggies, which included a 2024 NCAA Tournament appearance.
“Tineya brings the experience, defensive mentality and work ethic our program needs,” said Merriweather. “She will make an immediate impact on both sides of the ball and allow us to play up-tempo. Her toughness fits our style, and her belief in us and where we’re headed means everything. I am looking forward to her meshing with our current roster and her leadership as our point guard. With the addition of Tineya, we certainly got better, and we can’t wait to get started.”
The Toronto native starred on the U23 Canada National Team where she earned a silver medal at the 2023 GLOBL JAM. She averaged 4.0 points and 1.3 steals per game for her country during the tournament.
As a junior in 2023-24, she led the team in assists five times and recorded three double-digit scoring performances. She dished out a career-high seven assists vs. Vanderbilt on Feb. 15, 2024 – the second-highest assist total by an Aggie that season.
Hylton appeared in 20 games in 2022-23, averaging 6.1 points, 2.5 assists and 2.1 rebounds per game. Her assist average was good for second on the team and she was tied for first in steals per game (1.2).
She played the first semester of her college career at the University of Georgia after reclassifying due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She played in eight games, all in SEC play, and averaged 2.0 points and 6.3 minutes per game.
Hylton prepped at Hamilton Heights Christian Academy in Chattanooga, Tennessee, before going back to Canada to play at Royal Crown Academic School in Toronto. At Hamilton Heights Christian Academy, she helped her team put together a 25-1 record en route to the 2020 National Association of Christian Athletes Championship. She played on the Become One AAU team and earned MVP honors at the 2021 Ballin Across Borders Games. She was a junior All-American and was a John Lucas 160 Camp invitee.
Hylton joins Cincinnati’s incoming class that features freshman Chloe Mann (Fort Worth, Texas)
