Front Office weekly rundown 7/27/12

What’s up everybody? This week was full of the Penn State controversy it was the main topic of discussion, but there was a lot of activity going on besides the cleaning up at Penn St. Feel free to check out what we felt was important during this week in sports.

NFL

Ravens Safety Ed Reed will report to camp. Reed is in the last year of his contract in was contemplating holding out for a new deal. Reed will make 7.2 million this year, I know the Ravens are happy he changed his mind.

Bengals rookie CB Dre Kirkpatrick will be out 2-4 weeks due to a fractured bone in his leg. This injury could lock in more playing time for Terence Newman Bengals fans think about that….

The Titans placed WR Kenny Britt on the PUP list. Britt had a bad knee injury during the 2011 season and after camp this year had to get the same knee cleaned up which is why he has been placed on the PUP list.

RB Joe Addai was released by the Patriots. Yeah they just signed him this off-season they say he failed a physical but maybe he didn’t fit the “Patriot Way” mold?

Maurice Jones-Drew is holding out of camp. The Jags have not budged so far, MoJo is losing 30k a day he doesn’t show up from his 4.45 million he’s owed this year. He is also under contract for the 2013 season for the amount of 4.5 million. Honestly with that team around him Mojo better hold out for all the money he can get, Gabbert and Henne won’t make his life any easier, get paid young brother get paid.

49ers signed OG Leonard Davis to a 1 year deal. Davis was the former 2nd pick in the 01 draft. This pick will allow the 9ers to have more depth at the Guard position.

The Chicago Bears have acquired defensive tackle Brian Price from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a 2013 draft pick. The word on the street that the draft pick is a late rd pick.

MLB

P Cole Hamels signed a 6 year 144 million dollar extension with the Phillies. Hamels is one of the best pitchers in the game and has been rewarded. I heard he was spotted at the nearest bar in Philly doing the #moneydance.

A- Rod will be out 6-8 weeks with a broken left hand. Alex was hit on the hand by a pitch by the Mariners King Felix Hernandez. A-Rod should be ready to go before the playoffs start.

Blue Jays C J.P. Arencibia broke his hand on a foul tip, will likely miss 6 weeks.

The Miami Marlins traded P Anibal Sanchez and 2B Omar Infante to the Detroit Tiger for top pitching prospect Jacob Turner, C Rob Brantly and P Brian Flynn. This was a right now move for the Tigers they added to legit players for this years playoff run.

The Yankees traded for star outfielder Ichiro Suzuki. The Seattle Mariners received pitchers D.J. Mitchell and Danny Farquhar for the 38-year-old outfielder. Ichiro came up from the last place Mariners to the 1st place Yankees.

The Dodgers acquired the services of 3B/SS Hanley Ramirez and RP Randy Choate from the Miami Marlins. The Marlins received pitchers Nathan Eovaldi and Scott McGough (*minor leaguer). This was a legit move for one of the anemic offenses in baseball. Hopefully Hanley will be able to return to his all-star self.

The Pirates traded for P Wandy Rodriguez from the Astros. The Astros received minor leaguers OF Robbie Grossman, P Colton Cain and P Rudy Owens. This move shows the 2nd place Pirates are not playing about trying to get into the post season this year.

NBA

David Kahn is at it again. The Timberwolves signed forward Andrei Kirilenko to a 2 year deal worth 20 million dollars. Kirilenko had some solid years for the Jazz but really 20 million? Once again who am I? Can I get a quarter mil?

The Phoenix Suns resigned guard Shannon Brown to a 2 year deal.

The Los Angeles Lakers resigned forward Jordan Hill to a 2 year deal.

A three team trade happened between the Phoenix Suns, Minnesota Timberwolves and New Orleans Hornets. The Suns traded away C Robin Lopez and F Hakim Warrick to the Hornets and received F Wesley Johnson and a 1st round pick from the T’Wolves, The T’Wolves received G Jerome Dyson, retiring C Brad Miller and a 2nd round pick from the Hornets. Seems like a decent trade for everybody involved.

The Cavaliers acquired point guard Jeremy Pargo, a second-round draft pick in 2014, and cash considerations from the Grizzlies in exchange for guard-forward D.J.Kennedy

The T’wolves traded for forward Dante Cunningham. The Grizzlies received guard Wayne Ellington.

NCAA

Akron locked up their basketball coach to a 10 year deal. Keith Dambrot will be in Akron a long time….

Penn State took Joe Pa’s statue down and got hit over the head by the NCAA at the same **** time. Penn St. lost 112 wins counting back to 1998, a four-year post season ban, 60 million dollars that must be paid to child abuse programs outside of the school and 20 scholarships lost per year during the ban. Joe Pa is no longer number 1 in victories. The hammer has been dropped whether you like it or not. Hopefully this is the last situation like this we will see.

Minnesota Golden Gophers extended head basketball coach Tubby Smith deal 3 more years. He is now locked in until the 2016-17 season.

Mississippi State’s freshman Point Guard Jacoby Davis tore his ACL and is likely out for the season.

Hope you enjoyed this weeks rundown until next week, PEACE!!
