Why Derrick Rose Should Sit Until Next Season

Derrick Rose has been cleared to play by doctor’s after he suffered an ACL tear last April in the 2012 NBA playoffs. The Bulls are playing better than what many people expected despite missing the former MVP.

The Bulls tough nosed style of play and head coach Tom Thibodeau have the Bulls in playoff contention. Honestly the Bulls have no shot at competing with the Miami Heat for the Eastern Conference crown, but what they have achieved this season is commendable.

Many people are saying that if Rose suits up for the Bulls they can have a shot a dethroning the Heat. Um…..No! The Bulls lost 4-1 to the Heat in the 2011 Playoffs and that was during a time when the Bulls were at their peak, and the Heat was just scratching the surface. Now that the Heat is in beast mode the Bulls really wouldn’t stand a chance with or without Rose.

For the Bulls sake it is best to keep Rose out until next season. In my opinion I thought the Bulls would have been better off tanking the season and ending up with Shabazz Muhammad or Ben Mclemore to run with D. Rose for the future. It paid off for the Spurs in the 1997 when the Spurs landed Tim Duncan after Admiral David Robinson sat out the season due to injury.

Since the Bulls are anemic on offense they will need D. Rose to be the D. Rose we all know. It sounds good on the surface when people think that Rose can fuel a playoff run, but at this stage of the season his timing would disrupt the team and he would not be in any type of game shape. It is best for Rose to stay in his tailored suit rather than throwing on the Bulls jersey. Memo to Bulls Fans: Why risk further injury for a handful of games, and yea………Everybody can’t be Adrian Peterson!

  1. They messed up and didn’t tank the season. Rose shouldn’t comeback just cause of how Iman is playing. Explosive players need a lil more time to comeback .

  2. 2 things:

By your logic, nobody should compete if they can’t beat the Heat. Might as well hold him out until LeBron declines, lol.

And medically cleared, to me, means his ligament has healed. Which would mean he’s not risking injury any more than if he were healthy…which I believe the doctors are saying he is.

In general, I agree with a conservative approach. But if he’s healthy, he should go. They’re in the playoffs anyway, might as well give it your best shot.

    1. The being medical cleared to play usually is never the initial. In the last week, we’ve seen and heard that the mental part of the injury is what’s holding Rose up. Frankly, if his mind isn’t right, he should stay out because he could further injure compensathimself by trying to overcompensate.

      1. I mean, if he doesn’t feel like he can play, then he shouldn’t. I read the article as ‘Why the Bulls should keep Rose out’. If I’m Coach Thibs, I’m pushing him to get out there. Dude did a 70-minute workout before the last game. My pitch would be ‘build your confidence on the court’.

Whether Thibs has enough restraint to ease Rose back in is another issue. He’s notorious for playing his guys 40+ minutes. Luol Freaking Deng is leading the league in minutes!
