Two seasons ago the Big Ten added Nebraska from the Big 12, which started a chain reaction within the conference. The Big Ten added the Cornhuskers so they could have 12 members in the conference, made it possible to have two even divisions (6 apiece)within the conference and allowed the conference to have a conference championship tournament (for football).
All of the changes to the conference were positive except one, yes one ok maybe two because the division names were Legends and Leaders. From day one when my homie Nate wrote about this change back in 2010, I didn’t like the names and I knew countless people who didn’t like the names for the divisions. I didn’t think we the people had a voice with the selection of the names but last week our prayers were answered that during the beginning of the 2014 season the division names will be changed to East and West. Nothing fancy but sometimes less is better. We appreciate you Jim Delany (Big Ten commissioner) for making that change.
With the change of the division names taking place in the 2014 season they also will be welcoming two new members. The two members joining the Big Ten family will be Maryland and Rutgers from the ACC and the conference formerly known as the Big East. With the two new members the conference total will rise to 14.
Lets check out how the East and West divisions will be broken down in 2014.
