Who would’ve thought Lacy would be the best ‘Bama back!

The Alabama Crimson Tide have been a powerhouse since Nick Saban arrived in 2007. Bama has put a lot of players in the league, but I want to highlight a certain position today.

mark-ingram-trent-richardsonThat position is the running back position and the reason is because of the way Eddie Lacy is flourishing in the league. While at Bama everyone and their momma thought Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson would be light years better than Lacy. Most would argue, Lacy wasn’t even the best back on the team when Richardson left.

Ingram won the Heisman, but in the NFL has been, BLAH. Richardson was a top 5 pick, but has been, BLAH. Now, Lacy was drafted in the 2nd round and has raised hell since his arrival. He’s the only ‘Bama back between the 3 that has run for over a thousand yards. Lacy was almost an after thought until he went ham against Notre Dame in the National Title game.

eddie_lacyIngram has battled the injury bug and is a situational back for the Saints. Richardson was traded to the Colts and hasn’t been what the Colts were expecting. While Lacy has given the Packers something they haven’t had since Ahmad Green, which is a steady back who can carry the load.

NFL: Green Bay Packers at Chicago BearsI know it’s only been one year and maybe the glass slipper can break at midnight, but with the way Ingram and Richardson have been playing Lacy, even with decline, will still be the better back. Normally backs don’t decline in year two.  Lacy ran for 1,178 yards in 15 games and he battled a few injuries. The highest that either other back has run for is 950.

Just when you think you have everything pegged stuff like this happens. Was I the only one who didn’t think Lacy would be the man?
