USA Men’s National Basketball Team looks for next Basketball Star to represent America in Olympic qualifier

DAYTON, OHIO – The USA Men’s National Basketball Team is looking for the next basketball rock star that will join the team to represent the United States at the Jones Cup and Mitchell Cup this summer.  They will be hosting try-outs at Xenia Christian High School at the Athletes in Action Campus on June 8, 2014 from noon to 4 p.m. Players with collegiate or overseas professional experience are welcome to attend.

The 2014 USA Men’s National Basketball Team will compete for the Jones Cup in Taiwan in August, and the Mitchell Cup in the Dominican Republic in September.  The USA Men’s Olympic Team attends high profile Olympic qualifiers and the USA Men’s National Basketball Team works in concert with Team USA to attend other qualifiers worldwide, such as the Jones Cup.  The Jones Cup is a FIBA recognized event that is respected worldwide.   At the event, our USA team will compete against the other Olympic Teams.  Traditionally, it was designed for national teams across Asia and the Middle East to prepare for the FIBA Asia Championship and the 2016 Olympics.  The Jones Cup games garner worldwide and national attention, and will be aired on ESPN and Fox Sports.

This year, there are high expectations for the USA team to win gold as it is comprised of several former NBA players and nationally ranked NCAA champions, and will be led by former NBA Coach of the Year, Sam Mitchell.  Coach Mitchell was honored with the 2007 NBA Coach of the Year Award in his third season as the Head Coach of the Toronto Raptors.   Sam Mitchell’s expertise and experience led the Toronto Raptors to their first playoff berth since 2002, and to their first Atlantic Division title in the NBA Eastern Division Conference.   Coach Mitchell’s experience also serves him as an analyst on NBA TV and TSN and as a broadcaster for WHAL-AM in Columbus, and WZGC-FM “92.9 The Game” in Atlanta.

The cost for the tryout is $125 which includes a jersey and evaluation.  The opportunity to represent the United States at an Olympic qualifier, priceless!  For more information on the try outs, visit http://www.usajonescup.com, email USAJCBasketball@gmail.com, or call (318) 840-8560.
