Stadium Naming Rights-Columbus Crew

This week the Columbus Crew SC an MLS soccer club announced a naming rights sponsorship deal for the first time in Club history.

The Columbus crew was founded in 1994 and played its home games at Ohio Stadium. During the 1999 season the Crew moved to their new home in Columbus Crew Stadium. Crew Stadium was the first soccer specific stadium built in the United States.

Under the new sponsorship naming rights deal Crew stadium will now be referred to as MAPFRE (MAH’-fray) stadium. MAPFRE is a giant Spanish insurance company. The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but Crew officials said that it is a multi-year partnership. Also, it is said to be one of the largest sponsorship agreements in the history of the club.
