UC Athletics announces February Black History Month Celebration

Per GoBearcats:

The University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics will celebrate Black History Month throughout February with a month-long digital storytelling effort on GoBEARCATS.com and the Bearcats social platforms.

A moving recital of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s ‘I Have A Dream Speech’, voiced by student-athletes and Black Student-Athlete Association leaders Arthur Greenlee IV(track and field) and Shannon Williams (volleyball) will lead off the celebration on February 1, 2021.

Student-athletes from all sports will discuss the meaning and importance of being a black student-athlete through social posts and videos which will be released throughout the month.

Friday’s will feature historical posts focusing on some of the great stories from UC’s rich athletics timeline.

Visit the Black History Month Content Hub to find all the materials released in February 2021 as we focus on our student-athletes and let them share their stories.

BLACK STUDENT-ATHLETE ASSOCIATION

Members of UC’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) established the Black Student-Athlete Association in September 2020 as one of the group’s ongoing #BearcatsUnited initiative. The group is made up of UC student-athletes, coaches and staff and is dedicated to cultivating a community of inclusion, hospitality, and equality of student-athletes representative of the Black, African-American, Caribbean, and of the African Diaspora to enhance their experience as a Bearcat during their time of personal, academic, athletic, and social growth.
