Are the Bearcats dark horses to make CFB Playoff?

It’s been a quiet off-season for the Cincinnati Bearcats football team compared to their basketball team, but with the season a few months away it’s time to ramp up the excitement for this program. Cincinnati went 9-1 last season and had Georgia on the ropes, but a 54 yard field goal stole a win from them at the Peach Bowl.

Looking at this team heading into the 2021 season most that really aren’t paying attention to the squad may think they are a one year wonder, but Luke Fickell has set this program up for success with the coaches he’s hired and the players he’s (and crew) have recruited. Cincinnati received great news when quarterback Desmond Ridder and defensive end Myjai Sanders returned for their senior seasons both were on the NFL radar to be a second day pick. Cornerback Coby Bryant, linebacker Darrian Beavers and a few others also returned taking advantage of their covid year.

This team is returning 16 starters from the defending AAC Champs, which is why #BearcatNation has high hopes for this squad this year. They have two tough out of conference games on the road against Indiana and Notre Dame. If they can beat both and then run through the AAC, how could they be left out of the CFB Playoff?

“According to SportsBettingDime.com, Cincinnati opening odds were set at +5000 within the Top 20 favorite teams to win the 2022 CFP National Championship.”

Cincinnati is a Top 20 team to win the CFB Playoff, which is a top of the G5 teams and higher than Indiana who is Top 25 in the odds, but which is why that game holds so much weight. Notre Dame is a Top 15 team in the odds to win the championship, plus them having former Cincinnati defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman makes that game hold even more weight. An New Years Six game is within their grasps even if they split those two games, maybe if they lose both, but with wins against top tier teams from the ACC/Independent and Big Ten if you deny them the system is super rigged.

If you want the CFB Playoff to be shaken up hitch your wagon to Cincinnati because they really have the talent and depth to be a legit dark horse to pull this off. Don’t sleep on the boys from Clifton because they want the smoke!
