WVB: TFON speaks with Jordan Thompson ahead of Tokyo Olympics

I got the chance to sit and ask Jordan a few questions tonight and here is what the former Bearcat superstar had to say.

My first question I asked Thompson was about her relationship with Coach Alvey and the coaching staff at Cincinnati, and how they have helped her become the player she is today as well as how has the coaching staff been able to help her get to the position she is in today to become the first ever Bearcat volleyball player to represent our country on the big stage at the Olympics.

Thompsons response is as followed.

“Yeah, I think from day one they saw potential in me that I didn’t see in myself and I think they just pushed me everyday in practice to draw that potential out and to help show me that potential I was capable of. Just to have coaches like that, you cant go wrong. They are the best coaches in college volleyball and our relationship off the court even helped me become a better player and a better person. There are so many life lessons that coach has taught me and you know was there for me with whatever I needed and so, I think when you have that relationship with your coaching staff off the court, once you get on the court there’s just complete and total trust, so I know what they are telling me and the direction they are giving me is always for my betterment. I think I hit the Jackpot with them and I’m just so thankful for everything they have done for me and the rest of our staff at Cincinnati, everybody has always been so good to me they have always pushed me to be better, to be my best, to reach my potential and I think its just you know where I am at now its just because of the people at the University of Cincinnati. You know Coach Alvey, Coach White and Coach Kevin just pushing me everyday.”

I also asked Thompson outside of the 2019 NCAA tournament run what was her favorite memory as a Bearcat volleyball player and here is what she had to say.

“I mean that one was really so huge, I think just beating Pittsburg that was really, really exciting. I just remember being a little bit nervous because we had faced them in the preseason, and I knew they were a really strong team, and so I knew we were going to have to play a really strong game, and play our best. I think we did that, and I just remember that last point, setting Maria Mallon backrow and I was so nervous, I was like please just get a kill and Maria did and she got the kill. I will never forget that moment, its just burned into my mind in the best way possible, just being able to celebrate with the team in the locker room after that was so special and to have the coaches come in, were all just jumping around, super excited, I think that’s something I will never forget.”

The U.S Woman’s National team came home with the bronze back in 2016 in Brazil but they have their eye on the gold this time around. We will be following along on the quest to gold when the U.S National Team takes the floor starting on July 28th. The Front Office news staff wishes the former Bearcat superstar the best of luck as she looks to bring a gold medal back to Cincinnati.
