Stat of the Game (UC/UCF): Red Zone Offense

This past weekend the Cincinnati Bearcats faced a conference showdown against The UCF Knights. The Bearcats blew out the Knights by 35 points with a score of 56-21 at the end of regulation. The Bearcats offense tallied 476 total yards. Desmond Ridder passed for 140 yards and the team rushed for 336 yard. Jerome Ford rushed for 189 yards of the 336 total rushing yards. It was an offensive showcase of impressive catches and big runs. Everyone was involved in the passing game with nine receivers catching the ball. UCF was only able to register 296 total yards of offense and turned the ball over three times during regulation. UCF had a very poor third-down efficiency of 7-of-17 for 41%.

The Bearcats were able to capitalize on those turnovers with an interception by Coby Bryant for a 74-yard touchdown as well as an interception by Deshawn Pace in the second quarter. The defense stood tall. UC offense went to work putting up 56 points they had a third-down efficiency of 7-of-12 for 58%. Though the most spectator stat is the 23 first downs, UC had nine more first downs than UCF and the red zone offense was on display, seeming impossible for UCF to stop. Jerome Ford rushed for four touchdowns. Cincinnati ended the game with seven offensive touchdowns in the game. They went 6-of-7 in the red zone on Saturday with the only stop being on a fumble by Charles McClelland. Which is 86% if you round up, you know the team is doing good inside the 20 when you don’t have any field goal attempts.

Cincinnati will go on the road to face Navy on Saturday at noon on ESPN2. The No. 2 team in the nation will look to keep their winning ways in tack and move their record to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the AAC.
