Thoughts on Bearcats narrow escape win over Navy

The No. 2 team in college football had to battle it out this past Saturday at Annapolis, Maryland as the Cincinnati Bearcats Football escaped trouble holding over Navy, 27-20.

Notes:

  • The dreaded triple option is so tough to game plan around it, but Navy’s defense came to play and was physical right out the gates that shocked UC.
  • UC’s offense was very lousy only gaining 271 total for the whole game, but you can count that with Navy controlling the game on the clock. (39:27 to 20:33, advantage Midshipmen on time of possession).
  • The penalties continue to amount for the Bearcats as they had 11 for 93 yards.
  • Josh Whyle finally had a game as the junior tight end has four catches for 60 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Jerome Ford had 15 carries for 90 yards including a 43 yard touchdown burst in the third quarter that gave UC some breathing room.
  • Desmond Ridder was little off going 18-of-30 passing for 176 yards, two touchdowns and one bad interception in the red zone.
  • The defense played really well especially dealing with Navy’s unquie offense.
