Thoughts On UC Basketball Nail Biter Win Over Miami Ohio

For the first time in years the Cincinnati Bearcats Men’s Basketball team went up to Oxford to take on the Miami (OH) RedHawks in a basketball game and the fans in arena got their moneys worth for sure as the Bearcats survived over the RedHawks, 59-58. Cats are now 6-2 overall.

Notes:

  • UC is coming off a disappointing loss to Monmouth last Saturday at Fifth Third Arena and reasons being is that this team is not a good three pointing team. Welp in this game on Wednesday they shot 33 attempts and made nine! It comes to a point where Wes Miller must utlize his bigs and get the post game going.
  • The free throws. Yikes. 2-of-10 in this one.
  • The rebounding was a little bit better in this game winning the battle at 48-36 while grabbing 21 offensive rebounds. There are times though where guys are in position to get the board, but it gets snatched away.
  • This was the Ado game. First double-double of the season having 14 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Jeremiah Davenport struggled at the beginning trying to get his three point shot going, but he made two clutch ones down the stretch to give UC the lead. He ended the game with 14 points, eight rebounds and 4-of-10 from three.
  • How about the senior point guard during crunch? While UC’ offense was jacking up threes at will, David DeJulius was able to slow down the tempo and he made some key baskets late in the game. He finished with 12 points, four rebounds, four assists on 5-of-14 shooting (2-of-7 from three).
  • As a team UC shot 36.4 % from the field, but the defense held a very solid Miami team to 37.9%.

A much needed win and this team had to claw their way back they trailed as much as eight in the second half, but stayed the course. You can thank Miami of Ohio for going cold during that stretch where UC was able to regain to lead and hold at the end as the RedHawks got two chances for the game winning shot at the buzzer, but couldn’t get the ball into the net.

UC has a Sunday night home night tilt against Bryant at 7 pm on ESPN+ before the Crosstown Shootout against Xavier next Saturday night.
