Meet Akira Levy: Starting guard for UC Women’s Basketball

Note: Written 11/29/2021

She would describe herself as energetic, goofy and loud. Born in Baxter, Tennessee, standing at 5-foot-7, Akira Levy plans to leave her legacy here on UC’s court. Levy said that fans can expect a lot of fun and hard work. She prides herself in giving assists to her teammates. Levy said while sitting court side with head coach Michelle Clark-Heard, “Passing, I love making some nice passes.”

She transferred from Missouri University to Vanderbilt University just after one season, but she is now a junior finishing her college basketball career at the University of Cincinnati. Though she did not play in the past 2019-2020 NCAA due to transfer rules, as a freshman at Missouri she appeared in 28 games. She averaged 4.8 points and 2.1 assists. She was 48.1 percent from the field and 70 percent from the free throw line.

She developed her energetic, shifty style of play by learning how to play basketball with her older brother. She learned most of her skills by just having fun on the playground and watching YouTube videos. Besides displaying her skills on the court, Levy enjoys skateboarding, drawing, going to the park to oversee the city skyline and singing! She would
sing the national anthem before her games at the University of Missouri.

Cincinnati Bearcats Women’s basketball team are 10th in the conference. They came up short against Ohio State this past Saturday, 86-50. However, they hope to bring home the win against Central Michigan on December 1st. The Bearcats are 3-3 overall. Levy is 36% from the three point line and 76% from the free throw line. She has 14 defensive rebounds, 31
assists and 19 steals in the season. Levy future goal is to become a basketball coach or play professional basketball. She rocks the No. 2 jersey as starting point guard on the court, but she is No. 1 in our hearts.
