Senior Bowl: Ridder shines leading National Team to win

Per GoBearcats:

Quarterback Desmond Ridder tossed a pair of touchdown passes to lead the National Team to a 20-10 victory on Saturday at the Reese’s Senior Bowl at Hancock Whitney Stadium.

Ridder was joined by Cincinnati teammates defensive end Myjai Sanders, cornerback Coby Bryant and linebacker Darrian Beavers on the victorious National Team, which was coached by the New York Jets staff, at the collegiate all-star game for NFL prospects.

Ridder completed 4 of 6 passes for 68 yards and two scores and added 14 rushing yards on two attempts.

He connected with Colorado State tight end Trey McBride with 1:54 remaining in the second quarter to cap a 13-play, 64-yard drive.

In the fourth quarter, Ridder found Wisconsin tight end Jake Ferguson for a 25-yard touchdown with 11:04 left for the final score of the game.

Sanders tallied four tackles, 1.5 TFLs, a half-sack and a hurry, while Bryant and Beavers each finished with three stops.

Wide receiver Alec Pierce and running back Jerome Ford also competed at practice for the National Team, but did not play in the game.

Safety Brian Cook was selected for the Senior Bowl but did not participate after having surgery in the offseason.

The seven Senior Bowl selections set a school record, surpassing the 2008 team (six).

Saturday’s win for the Bearcats was a fitting ending for a Cincinnati senior class that led the Bearcats to a school-record 13 wins in 2021. UC also won a second-straight AAC Championship and a earned a berth in the College Football Playoff Semifinals at the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic.
