Jets CB Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner tabbed AFC Defensive Player of the Week

Yesterday, former Bearcat cornerback Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week after finishing with a career high 10 tackles, and three pass defections in the New York Jets 16-9 victory over the Denver Broncos. Sauce is continuing to make a case for Defensive Rookie of the Year as the former Bearcat standout has recorded 33 tackles, and 12 pass defections and has still not allowed a touchdown in the NFL as we head into Week 8.

For those who don’t know Gardner still hasn’t allowed a touchdown dating back to his high school playing days as Gardner never allowed a touchdown during his three-year playing career at the University of Cincinnati. Sauce is leading a high-powered Jets defense and has continued to lock down some of the NFL’s top wide receivers including Ja’marr Chase, Amari Cooper, Tyreek Hill, Diontae Johnson and more as the young cornerback continues to impress throughout the start of his rookie season and the world is starting to take notice, as Gardner a 6-foot-3 cornerback has really been able to dominate with his length and his speed throughout the first half of the NFL Season as he was named the Pepsi Rookie of the Week earlier in the season and now can add AFC Defensive Player of the Week to his resume.

Congratulations to Sauce on a great start to his rookie season as he continues to make a strong case for AFC Defensive Rookie of the Year.
