NIT Bound, Bearcats to host Virginia Tech in the First Round

Per GoBearcats:

The Cincinnati men’s basketball team will make its 45th postseason appearance Wednesday night when it hosts Virginia Tech in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament (9 p.m. ET, ESPN2).

No. 4-seed Cincinnati, which earned its 40th, 20-win season in program history, is making its first NIT appearance since 2010. The Bearcats have made the postseason 11 times out of the last 13 years (excluding 2020 and COVID), with nine of those in the NCAA. The NIT, which began in 1938, features three rounds of campus sites before its inaugural Las Vegas Final Four (March 28-30).

This will be the 31st meeting with the Hokies, who lead the all-time series 18-12. All those came as members of the Metro Conference, with the most recent one coming in 1991. The winner of this game will face the victor of No. 1 Rutgers and Hofstra on Saturday or Sunday.
