WS: UC takes care of Bowling Green 1-0 in home opener


University of Cincinnati defeated Bowling Green 1-0. Giving University of Cincinnati its first win of the season and winning yet another home opener. The all-time record between the two teams is 5-2 with Cincinnati having the lead. Going into this game the Bearcats had a record of 0-2, while the Falcons had a record of 0-1.

Sophomore Megan Smith scored a goal within two minutes of the game, giving the Bearcats the advantage early being up 1-0. Last year, Megan Smith was a 3x AAC Freshmen of the Week also Megan made the All-Freshmen Team. Through 70 minutes the Bearcats held the Falcons scoreless. The backline for the Bearcats today was perfect. Ashley Barron set the tempo for the defense being the aggressor and the goalie Anna Rexford had 12 saves to end the night. This win gave head coach Erica Demers her first victory improving the team record 1-2.

Interview with Megan Smith

Caleb Brewer: How does it feel to get your first goal of the season within two minutes of the game?
Megan Smith: It was awesome, it was a great feeling to come out and start strong as a team. It built the energy up and it is personally exciting to be on the score sheet and start off because it can build momentum for the rest of the season

Caleb Brewer: How proud of you of Anna Rexford?
Megan Smith: Anna Rexford is my girl! She is awesome, she is our lord and savior back there she saves us games.

Caleb Brewer: Do you see growth as a team?
Megan Smith: We didn’t start the season how we wanted to and now we are coming out with the win. That’s growth on the score sheet there, but in practice everybody is getting better, every one trying new things and we have the numbers. I am excited for the rest of the season.

Caleb Brewer: What impact does Ashley Barron has on this team?
Megan Smith: Ashley Barron is our rock in the back. She is our captain, she is someone we can all rely on to be in the backline and hold it up for us.
