Previewing the Bearcats next opponent: Eastern Kentucky Colonels

Previewing Eastern Kentucky

Eastern Kentucky is led by head coach Walt Wells, who enters his fourth season as head coach of the Colonels, where he is 16-14 all time as head coach. However, for the Colonels, they are returning 6th year quarterback Parker McKinney, who threw for over 4,000 yards a season ago, and was tabbed as a third team FCS All-American heading into the season.

McKinney, currently holds the Colonels all-time record in passing attempts (1,300), completions (816), passing yards (9,718), passing touchdowns (74), total offense (11,164) yards. The 6th year quarterback loves to get the ball out quickly and that will be a huge test for the Colonels come Saturday, with a defense line consisting of Jowon Briggs, Dontay Corleone, Malik Vann, and Eric Phillips. “Jowon Briggs is playing the best ball of his career right now,” said Scott Satterfield.

The Colonels also return two key pieces up front in the trenches in redshirt junior Payton Collins, and senior Josiah Ezirim who both joined McKinney on the Preseason All-UAC Conference Team. Two veteran pieces who understand the Colonels offense that allows McKinney to do his job, and get the ball out quickly.

The Colonels also return junior running back Braedon Sloan, who is poised for a huge season after leading the Colonels in rushing in 2022. Sloan finished his sophomore campaign rushing for 629 yards on 149 carries, while finding the end zone seven times. Sloan is also a huge weapon in the passing game, after hauling in 42 receptions for 506 yards, and three touchdowns a season ago. Sloan, will be a name to most defiantly keep an eye on for the Colonels on offense to say the least.

What should fans expect on Saturday

Cincinnati fans should expect a huge crowd, after the University of Cincinnati announced Saturday’s game a sellout earlier this week. Bearcats fans attending the game on Saturday are encouraged to grab a Cincy Light, as the Cincy Reigns and Rhinegeist product will be served in all concessions throughout the stadium on game days.

Bearcat fans are also encouraged to try the new Big Cat sandwich, which will be served in Stadium View Cafe above the north end zone. The one pound pastrami sandwich is a must have for Bearcats wondering, I would highly recommend. The University of Cincinnati has also expanded the perimeter around TUC, allowing fans to have access to Chick-Fila-A, Qdoba and Panda Express throughout the game starting two hours before kickoff.
