INTO THE CLEAR: my thoughts and mindset ahead of the Bearcats first game as Big 12 members and with head coach Scott Satterfield

I can’t believe it’s finally here. After nearly nine months since he was hired and nearly two years since the Bearcats formally joined the Big 12, first-year head coach Scott Satterfield will lead the Bearcats into their first game as Big 12 members tomorrow afternoon. The Bearcats take on Eastern Kentucky at 3:30 E.T.. The game can be seen on ESPN+ and heard on 700 WLW and 102.7 WEBN.

College Football is so unique. Nine out of the 12 months have nothing to do with games themselves. But that’s what makes every game so meaningful, so compelling and so intense. You’re only guaranteed 12 games a season over a three month span.

For the past nine months, we’ve speculated. We’ve speculated about life in the Big 12 for the Bearcats. We’ve speculated about what a Scott Satterfield offense is going to look like. We’ve speculated about the quarterback. We’ve speculated about the schedule.

Can we just let the Bearcats play a game already? I appreciate the people I’ve talked to this offseason who say they “don’t know much about [Satterfield].” That’s because we haven’t seen him coach a game. We can’t have a conclusive opinion about him.

This is a new era of Bearcats Football. It’s also a new era for Scott Satterfield. What happened at Louisville should have no impact on what he does at Cincinnati. Just like Joe Torre’s shortcomings as a manager did not dissuade George Steinbrenner from hiring him as Yankees Manager in 1996- Torre would lead the Yankees to four World Series titles in his first five years- Satterfield’s shortcomings at Louisville should not discourage Bearcats fans for what he can do here in Clifton.
