“First thing I want to say is, how awesome it was to play in Nippert Stadium,” Satterfield said. “It was everything that i had anticipated it would be and then some. When we ran out the tunnel and saw people still filing in after the game started it was awesome. We fed off their energy this afternoon.”
Senior wide receiver Xzavier Henderson also had a fantastic Bearcats debut as he hauled in eight passes for a career high 149 yards and a touchdown. Jones would connect with Henderson on 4th-and-5 on the opening drive for a 50-yard touchdown down the right sideline. “I called him {Emory Jones} the lunch lady because he was feeding everyone today,” Henderson said.
Corey Kiner led the rushing attack with 13 carries, including a career long 54 yard run early in the second quarter. Kiner finished with a total of 105 yards on the ground, but was a prime piece to the Bearcats success this afternoon. “The offensive line was doing their thing up front, those holes were really opening up. It all started up front,” Kiner said.
Daniel Grzesiak led the defense with seven tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and two tackles for loss in his Bearcats debut. Grzesiak, was able to find the backfield frequently as the Colonels focused all of their focus to guys like Dontay Corleone and Jowon Briggs. “I love those guys,” said Grzesiak. “Last year, I remember getting chipped and double teamed, but today, I didn’t get touched at all. It was 1-1 all day. I love those guys. If they slide to Briggs and Corleone its ok, I will slide, do my dougie and I will eat.”
