Fifth year senior defensive lineman Jowon Briggs is looking to lead the Bearcats defensive front despite putting his trust into a new coaching staff heading into his fifth season of college football. However, Briggs has endured a lot this offseason between a new coaching staff, a position change, and much more.
For the Cincinnati native his story is one of the most unique stories in all of college football. Despite, what Briggs has achieved on the field, his achievements off the field are much more incredible. Briggs, 23 years old, graduated Cincinnati this past winter, before electing to return to school to pursue his second degree, while using his extra year of eligibility in the process.
His story is unlike any other in college football, as this offseason has not only been about adjusting on the field, but off the field as well. Briggs, and his wife Nyjae, welcomed in their youngest son named Zane on Friday, August 25th, 2023. The Briggs family also have a two and half year-old son, and year-old daughter. A prime example of what kind of leader Jowon Briggs is for the Bearcats, as he manages to raise a family of three, while leading the Bearcats on the field as they gear up for this weekend’s home opener.
“I can promise you that you won’t find another guy that has three kids, attempting to play at the same level,” said Briggs. “We are going through about 50 diapers a day and it’s not getting any better. So, if there’s any diaper companies that want to partner with some NIL deals, I’d love to reach out.”
However, as Briggs looks to lead by example on the field, he also looks to lead by example off the field as well. Briggs, is really adjusting to the new life changes ahead of this week’s match up vs Eastern Kentucky University, but how is he staying focused with so much going on outside of the football facilities you may ask?
