The Cincinnati Bearcats started the Scott Satterfield era with a 66-13 win over EKU. While EKU isn’t Alabama by any means it was a hell of a debut in front of a sold-out Nippert Stadium crowd. Quarterback Emory Jones had a hell of a day, but I wanted to take some time to show some love to wide receiver Xzavier Henderson.
Henderson is a 6’3″, 200 pound receiver that transferred in from Florida this summer. He had 38 catches for 410 yards and two touchdowns last season. The senior from Miami, Florida had himself a day. On Saturday the young man had seven catches for 149 yards and a touchdown. His touchdown was from 49 yards out where he beat the defensive back on a go route showing off his straight line speed.
Making an immediate impact had to feel good for the transfer no matter who they were playing, everybody wants to impress the masses in their first game. Henderson was going against EKU, so we have to pump the breaks some, but he showed No. 1 receiver capabilities on Saturday and against Pitt this week the Bearcats will need him to flash on the road as well. He’s laid the grown work to be a huge impact player on this team this season.
“First one in the Nipp, I had to go get it,” said Henderson after his first touchdown in Nippert Stadium. Something is telling me this won’t be the last time #BearcatNation sees Henderson score at Nippert and other stadiums.
