OSU TE Joe Royer transfers to UC

The Bearcats continued to get great news as former Ohio State tight end Joe Royer announced his pledge to the Bearcats earlier this afternoon. Royer, becomes the 8th transfer to announce their commitment to Scott Satterfield and the Bearcats over the last 36 hours.

Royer, a 6’5″ 255 pound tight end spent the last three seasons at Ohio State before electing to come back to Cincinnati to finish off his college career. Royer, a Cincinnati native attended local Elder high school where he was a former four-star prospect, and the 8th ranked tight end in the class of 2020. Royer, was teammates with current Bearcat Luke Kandra during their time at Elder, and now will get the opportunity to run it back, this time in the red and black.

The Bearcats knew they were going to have to add a tight end in the transfer portal this offseason after Chamon Mateyer departed for Colorado University in December. Royer, becomes that guy that can slide in and be an immediate impact player for the Scott Satterfield and the Bearcats.

Tight ends coach Josh Stepp was the lead recruiter on the case for Royer since entering the transfer portal back in December. Royer, was on campus for a visit in the early transfer window in hopes of landing the former four-star tight end. Royer, comes to Cincinnati with great size and length with his 6’5″ frame, which will contribute both in the passing and running game for the Bearcats.

Royer, is freak athlete for someone his size, and many have seen that dating back to his time at Elder High School under Coach Doug Ramsey. Royer now comes in and joins a tight end room that features Joey Beljan, who missed off the 2023 season due to injury, Payton Singletary, Calab Schmitz and more. Look for Royer to come in and be the number one tight end for the Bearcats as they prepare for their second season in the Big 12.

Royer ultimately choose to return home after drawing major interest from Tennessee. Royer comes to the Bearcats with two years of remaining eligibility as well, which is huge for Scott Satterfield and company.

Could Royer become the next great Bearcat tight end. That is a great question, but he has all the physical attributes to do so as this is a huge addition for Scott Satterfield and the Bearcats ahead of the 2024 season.
