Dan Skillings discusses future plans ahead of 2024-2025 season

Earlier this afternoon Cincinnati sophomore guard Dan Skillings discussed his future plans while on the ESPN+ Broadcast of this afternoon’s Bearcats/TCU Baseball game. Skillings hinted at his future plans with play-by-play broadcaster Anthony Mazzini during the fourth inning of this afternoon’s contest.”

“This year coming up will be my last year, for sure,” said Skillings. “Then I’ll be going to the league. That’s been the goal.” Skillings also noted that he has already been back in the weight room with strength and conditioning coach Mike Rehfeldt, while partaking in some Pilates to prepare for the upcoming season.

Skillings was Wes Miller’s first high school recruit back in September of 2021 after seeing his recruitment skyrocket in the back half of his high school career. Skillings, has mentioned in the past about his relationship with Coach Wes Miller and how much he really enjoys being coached by this coaching staff so far in his young career.

“They always tell you, if the coach doesn’t talk to you or isn’t hard on you then he doesn’t really care.” Skillings told reporters following the victory over Kansas at the Big 12 Championships. “That shows me how much he cares about me. He is hard on me because he knows what I am capable of as a player. I respect that kind of coaching a lot because I can take it,”

Skillings took a tremendous leap from his freshman to sophomore year, drastically improving in almost every single statical category this past season. However, for me, it was clear to see that Skillings was the Bearcats most improved player over the past season, and I think many others would agree with that statement.

Skillings earned Big 12 Honorable Mention honors this past season, where he finished the season averaging 13 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists on 42% FG shooting. Skillings has proved he can be that impact player that Miller and his staff are looking for as they prepare for the upcoming 2024-2025 season.
